How does a couch potato run a half-marathon?

No really… that’s not a rhetorical question. Time to get serious… because I want to know.

Running is hard… it’s painful… it’s sweaty and I am lazy. Really lazy. I have absolutely no problem staying on my couch watching dvr’d shows and Netflix ALL DAY… maybe all weekend. Yep that sounds like heaven to me.



I started running last year and without much training decided to run my first 5K. I loved crossing that finish line even if I was one of the last runners and a 70 year old woman passed me at the very end. Right after that I decided to sign up for the Kiawah Island half-marathon. I meant to train for it. Really, I did. The fact is that I didn’t. What a waste of money… it also made me not even try to run one mile for many, many months.



I just wasn’t ready to make the commitment to myself.


Running has always been the biggest challenge for me. I was a horrible runner even when I was technically “in shape” while playing volleyball in high school. I struggled with running more than anyone… still do. So here’s why I am starting this blog. I obbviously can’t hold myself accountable to train, but maybe writing it down on the www will make me actually DO IT this time. My goal starting today will be to train for the Columbia Half-Marathon coming up on March 10.




I sure hope so....


In case there is someone actually reading this blog one day and you are wondering why my goal isn’t full marathon.... the truth is that I want to keep all of my toenails and I really don’t want to have a heart attack. 26.2 miles just sounds insane.



More power to you crazy marathoners, but it's not for me right now.


Now 13.1 miles still sounds slightly crazy... but I've always been ok with slightly crazy. So let the pre-training begin… I WILL run tomorrow.
